Paper Mache Thanksgiving Center Piece
When holidays come around, I am in a big mood to craft. Late one night last week the girls and I started a paper mache turkey.
We found a unused balloon from one of our many birthdays.
We grabbed some newspaper ads and made a mache mixture (1part flour 2parts water).
We cut strips of paper, dipped in the mache and loaded them evenly around the balloon.

Ok Remember I said it was late and I was tired.
Well we didn’t have any brown paint and for the life of me I couldn’t remember to get or couldn’t find brown paint when I went shopping. So a couple days later after the balloon was good and dry we did something different. We used brown construction paper with more mache.
Once that was complete and dry I had the girls cut out various (fall colored) strips for feathers, torso, beak and a waddle.
We used some left over wiggle eyes from previous projects and lots of elmer’s glue.
We glued “feathers” on the side and behind. We glued the face and torse on the body (with some manipulation) and viola….
A Thanksgiving piece that can be used year round and the kids will remember having fun making it with you.

Thanksgiving Crafts with my kids…
Every holiday the kids and I love crafting and cooking it is so fun for us to do together. Since it is Thanksgiving we decided to make Turkeys to put out on the window.
We traced the girl’s hands on construction paper and cut them out; approximately 5 per turkey. We also cut out a triangle for each turkey and glued the hands to them to represent feathers.
Oh and we cut out two feet. Easy right? Next we cut some brown paper to be the body.
Next we added a beak a waddle and wiggly eyes. Here are the girls with their finished projects:

Stuffing Recipe
I am so ready for Holiday cooking and so are my little ones, they love to help. We have been planning Thanksgiving Dinner and for me, Stuffing is just as important as the turkey!
Here is a recipe from Todd Adelman, Director of Nutritional Services for Block Institute. Block Institute is a New York City educational facility dedicated to providing services to children and adults with special needs.
Stuffing (Yields four cups)

½ cup celery, finely diced
-
¼ cup onion, finely diced
-
1 Tbsp. margarine

2 medium apples, grated
-
2 tsp. parsley flakes
-
1 tsp. dried thyme
-
½ tsp. salt
-
1/8 tsp. white pepper
-
½ cup chicken stock
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Cut bread into cubes & set aside in large bowl. Sauté celery & onion in margarine until soft. Add celery mixture & remaining ingredients to bread cubes. Toss until liquid is absorbed. Bake, uncovered, for 30 minutes.
Serve.
