Than it was time to carve some poor unsuspecting pumpkins. They never had a chance. It was quit funny, because for the past couple years we haven’t carved. So my little princess was very grossed out at the pumpkin’s texture.

My son’s team won his game their first playoff game on Saturday, 36-6. We are still waiting to hear who and when they play next. I’ll keep you posted.

Go Ravens!

Halloween over here was just beautiful, I couldn’t have asked for better weather. My son decided to be “Ice Wolf Ninja” my daughter (after her wolf costume wouldn’t fit) decided to be another Ninja (old costume of my son’s.) My little ballerina was a fairy princess and my baby girl was Blue (thanks Sis for that.)

We spent just under an hour trick or treating.  There were some nice people around our little neighbor hood and some really great looking houses.  We raced back home because the kids wanted to pass out candy.  Of course we had to light up our pumpkins first:

The big kids decided to run around the front yard and scare people, they ended up making a whole bunch of people giggle, ooouuu spooky! hehe.  My ballerina was the one to hand out candy, and she had a blast.  This was her domain and she was the boss.  “Mom, I got it…”

Find Coupons for Halloween Costumes

In keeping with the Halloween theme I seem to be going on lately, thought I would share something brought to my attention.

A place to find coupons or even huge savings on Halloween costumes. Ask.com has launched a new search that looks for coupons and deals it is called AskDeals.com.  Here is a snap shot of what I might get when I search Halloween Costumes:

There is still a week left, so there is just enough time.  So if you looking to buy a costume online, thought this would be a good way to save money at the same time.

Good Luck and Happy Halloween!

Being nutritious on Halloween Night?

Halloween and Nutrition? The two don’t go together right? I always struggle this time of year to make good choices for the kids and to help them make good choices. So I was happy to receive the following tips written by Heidi Skolnik, RD on behalf of the Florida Department of Citrus.

Give your child a nutritious meal before he goes trick-or-treating. A meal with nutrient rich foods and beverages like a peanut butter sandwich with a cup of 100% OJ will fill him up and make it less likely that he’ll be eating the candy before he even gets home.

Reduce sugar. Although you should serve a full meal on Halloween night, try to avoid all unnecessary sugar that day. That way, if they do have a few treats later, they won’t run the risk of overdosing on sweet stuff.

Let your child indulge a bit. Not allowing your child to eat her Halloween candy will just drive her to want it more. Although a low-fat diet is important for children, allowing the occasional indulgence, especially on a fun-oriented holiday like Halloween, is also important.

Set limits on how much candy can be eaten at once. When your child returns home from trick-or-treating, ask her to pick the 10 pieces of candy that she wants to keep. Take the rest away and use them as substitutes for lunch treats or desserts.

Have your child brush and floss his teeth thoroughly before going to bed. Although this should be done every night, it’s especially important that your child’s teeth be free of the Halloween sugar.

Donate your leftover candy to charity. Not only will this prevent your child from continuing to eat candy for months to come, it will help teach her the value of helping others.

Try non-edible options. Instead of giving out candy to local ghosts and goblins, consider small toys, such as temporary tattoos, stickers, crayons, small novelties, miniature magnifying glasses, plastic jewelry/decoder rings, necklaces, and fake money.

Halloween Costume using stuff from home?

Halloween Glitter Graphics

Ok it is that time of year, finding Halloween costumes. The thing is I don’t want to buy a costume. Does anyone have ideas for costumes we can make using stuff at home?

There is the tradition grab a sheet and cut wholes.  Thing is… I don’t have white sheets and I probably wouldn’t cut holes in them.

I have some canvas type material that might be good cut in strips for a mummy…

My 13 year old has a suit, she could be a lawyer or executive time, maybe a zombie in a suit.  But I am not too into scary stuff.  Hmmm

One year I dressed my son up in his flannel shirt and put his tool belt on.  He was a construction worker, it was sooo cute.  Would have loved a pic of that!

One year I dressed my ballerina in her little leopard outfit and just colored a nose and whiskers on her face.

Any ideas? I would be most grateful….
