Goals
- Ensure Children Have At Least One Quality Meal a Day Over the Summer
Costs Associated With Use of Kitchen (School District Labor)
Overview
Background
Nearly 10 percent of Mineral County’s workforce has been laid off in the last six months. This program seeks to ensure that children can be fed over the summer.
This program will provide quality meals, including meats, vegetables, sandwiches, milk, and fresh fruit to 100 students in Mineral County.
Mineral County has a free and reduced lunch rate of 51%, which means that these children generally do not have a healthy meal outside of school, or over summer vacation. The summer feeding program would enable the community to provide for these children when school is out of session.
Key Deliverables:
Five lunches a week will be provided to Mineral County’s youth over the summer.
The lunches will be prepared at the school kitchen and delivered at the town park each summer weekday. Without the summer feeding program, the kitchen would be closed and the children may not have access to a healthy meal.
