Last spring was our first attempt at growing pumpkins in our raised garden, it was a huge success. After our garden beds were ready, we soaked the seeds and waited. Before long we had large pumpkin plants and I could tell it wouldn’t be long before they took over our yard.
We waited and waited to see pumpkins growing. We saw plenty of bright yellow beautiful flowers advertising their goodies to the local bees. Finally after some time of wondering what I was doing wrong, this little beauty showed up. I’d like to introduce you to the female pumpkin flower. All my previous flowers didn’t have that lovely little fruit behind them.
The honey bees were covered in pollen and armed to pollinate. Aren’t bees beautiful?
The very afternoon after the fruit had bloomed it was closed up again. Apparently our little bees had wasted no time in pollinated this flower.
Here is our first little pumpkin growing quickly. I added pine shavings underneath to keep it dry.
Happy Wordless Wednesday everybody!
