When I first saw the trailer for the movie Coco, I got a little excited. I loved seeing a theme with a little of my heritage in it, in this case, a lot. I know what it’s like to want to learn more about family. We have a very large family on both sides but we are all spread out and we don’t get together as often as we would like. In Miguel’s case, the answers are there, but no one is talking and he’ll take a special journey to get the answers.
Despite his family’s baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel (voice of newcomer Anthony Gonzalez) dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz (voice of Benjamin Bratt). Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector (voice of Gael García Bernal), and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history.
If my Abuela was still here I would definitely enjoy time to visit her and talk about our family’s history. Instead, I use this time of year to reflect on all the good times and giggles.
What is the Day of the Dead? Día de Muertos, which is also known as the Day of the Dead is a Mexican celebration that takes place over the first two days of November where people honor their departed family and friends by building altars where they display photos. They make delicious food and beverages and enjoy remembering their how their loved ones enjoyed in life.
I love all the trailers, I am just fascinated by the artwork and the vibrant colors. I feel like there is so much to see on every inch of the screen. Here is the newest trailer, check it out.
