Today I’m sharing sharing a fairly easy tutorial on making a paper mobile. For this paper mobile, I made flowers. You could also make it with paper cars, clouds, butterfly’s and so on. This is a sponsored post, all opinions are my own
Making this mobile in stages made it go quite smoothly.
- Card Stock Paper at least 10 sheets per color
- Paper Punch
- Large Metal Craft Ring
- Craft Glue (Elmer’s would fine)
- Glue Gun
- Glue Sticks
I love the bright colored card stock I received from the folks at DistinctPapers.com and now it is time to cut out all my shapes using an ek paper punch. This is a thick paper, but not so thick that it is hard to cut. The particular paper punch I bought had two flower shapes, a leaf and a small circle. After punching out our cutting the shapes, it is time to think about the pattern.
I tried all kinds patterns, I knew once it was assembled on the mobile it would be impressive, but I needed a little feedback. I asked my friend Candy for her favorite pattern and I ended up doing the one in the bottom right corner.
Now it is time to prepare the ring. Put a small strand of glue about 3 inches along the ring and start wrapping it loosely with the twine. The wrapping takes a little time depending on the size of the ring.
Now measure out your strands to the desired length with a little room to spare. Use that one strand to cut the rest of your twine, I used about 32 strands for my 20″ ring. After you tie your first knot, tie the second directly across from the previous knot. Tie the next knot between your last set of strings and the next directly across from the knot you just tied. This process helps you space your strands out evenly.
After you have your strings tied, use 4 more strands to tie to the top of the ring so your mobile will hang nicely. I used a 3m hook on an arch way in my living room to hang the mobile and allow me to glue on the flowers. I decided to glue on the small circles to the center of my paper flowers so this was done in a type of assembly line project until I had pink flowers with a green center and green flowers with a pink center.
When your ready start at the top of your mobile. Put a small amount of hot glue on the back of the flower and attach it to the string and progressively work your way around and down the mobile. I also attached a leaf to the back of the flower. I would suggest doing about 10 of the same flowers at a time.
I really liked working with the people and the paper from DistinctPapers.com, I told them what I wanted to do and they new exactly what I needed. There are many colors that are sure to spark your creativity, be sure to check it out. Come back on Friday, I’ll be hosting a pretty nice giveaway and we will have 3 winners.
