The family and I were thinking about something fun and different to do for St. Patrick’s Day when my husband suggested a pot of gold cake. I thought the Nutella cake I did for our daughter’s birthday was fun so why not..
I’m so happy with how it turned out.
Here are the instructions to make your very own pot of gold cake. You’ll need to bake a large cake four layers worked great for me. Add yellow frosting between each layer.
Next carve the cake to look like a pot of gold. After you round it, take a bit off the top so when the sugar cookie coins are added it will look very full.
Next it’s time to frost the cake. After you frost the cake with chocolate smooth it out. You can do this by dipping the frosting knife in a hot cup of water and going back over the frosting on the cake.
Add yellow frosting to the top of cake followed by your sugar cookie “gold coins.” You could also use gold foiled chocolate coins.
