When I first met my husband I couldn’t get over how much he loved bread. Fast forward over 26 years later and our kids are happy snacking on a loaf of bread. Only thing a Mom can do? Learn to bake and find lots easy baking recipes. I’m sharing with you my white bread recipe here.
On a cold, cloudy or rainy day, this is my easy go-to baking recipe. My family likes it by itself or dipped in everything from stew, soup, to chili or slathered with Nutella, butter or jelly and it doesn’t last the night.
Basic White Bread
2 packages active dry yeast
2 1/2 cups water (105F to 115 F)
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon melted margarine or 1 tablespoon butter
7 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons cornmeal
1 egg white
1 tablespoon cold water
In sauce pan, heat Milk, Butter and Sugar till sugar is dissolved and let cool to luke warm.
In your mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water.
Add flour 5 cups of flour and mix using dough hook.
Mix for 4 minutes. Add remaining flour 1/2 cup at a time till dough pulls away from the bowl (this may be less that the total of 7 cups) Dough will be sticky.
Put the dough in a large greased bowl, turning to coat.
Cover and let rise in warm place, free from draft, about 1 hour, or until dough has doubled in size.
Punch dough down and divide in half.
Roll each half into 7″ x 14″ rectangles.
Roll dough tightly (lenth wise) and pinch closed. Fold ends in slightly and place in greased loaf pan.
Cover and let rise in warm place, free from draft, about 1 hour, or until doubled in bulk.
Bake at 400 F for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
Immediately remove from baking sheets and cool on wire racks.
Slice and Enjoy!
