Affording Your Green Nursery Makeover

If you are preparing your home for a new baby or have already welcomed a new baby into your home, you may be considering ways to give your nursery an eco-friendly renovation. Unfortunately, many eco-friendly products are more expensive than other options available for purchase. So how can you make updating and upgrading your nursery more affordable?

1. Consignment Stores

While buying new items that have been made in an eco-friendly way from a local store is one way to decorate your nursery, another way is to simply purchase items that have already been used. You can shop at consignments stores that carry baby and children’s products to find excellent items for your nursery.

2. Affordable Financing

Of course, you cannot find everything you need to buy for your nursery at a consignment store, so you will need to buy some eco-friendly options online or at stores. Paying for these items may be tricky if you are on a tight budget, so try and find some deals through things like Black Friday leaks or coupons online. However, you can shop for the best credit card that has a low interest rate and no annual fee. With this card, you can pay for your purchases now and pay off the balance later.

3. Rewards Programs

If you are going to be using a credit card to fund some of your purchases, why not get the most out of your credit card? While shopping for a good card, look for a card that has an excellent rewards program. Some cards are designed for environmentally conscious consumers, and others may have special rewards or bonuses for parents. Spend time reviewing the rewards programs available to find the one that may most benefit you.

4. Reduce Your Debt

It may seem counter intuitive to pay off credit card accounts, your car loan or student loans when you are trying to decorate a nursery. However, the average credit card debt of card users in the U.S. is approximately $16,000. The monthly payment on this debt balance may easily be several hundred dollars. You may not be able to eliminate your debt if you have high balances.

However, by reducing even a portion of your credit card debt, you can free up money that can be used for your nursery makeover. If your student loans or car loans are close to being paid off, consider wiping these debts out for regular savings. This will allow you to slowly purchase items for your nursery over the next few months.

5. Borrow From Friends

You will need to buy some things for your nursery, either new or used. However, some things you may be able to borrow from friends. If one of your friends, for example, is not currently using a crib and has no intention of having a baby in the next year or two, you can consider asking if you can borrow it. After all, borrowing items does not have a negative impact on the environment.

Your best option when planning a green makeover in your home is to borrow and save on as many items as you can, whether it’s using coupons for a car tuneup or getting used to buying things in bulk. Then buy other items at consignment stores before searching for new products. Keep in mind that using a credit card for purchases can help you to make these purchases more affordable.
