New Kraft MilkBite Bars

Anyone who has kids knows it is a struggle to keep the cupboard and refrigerator stocked with wholesome snacks.  Kraft has our back with their new “milk & granola” bar.

These MilkBite bars have the same amount of calcium you would find in a glass of milk.  They also have 5 grams of protein, 7 grams of whole grains and are a great source of fiber.  What they don’t have?  High fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors, colors or preservatives.

What did my kids think?  Apparently my kids loved them because it was a challenge to keep a couple of flavors for me to sample.

  • The MilkBite bars were soft and chewy at the same time.
  • Each bar is a good serving size.
  • and they taste great.

I was going to do a blind taste test to see which bars my kids preferred.  I didn’t get that far.  The fridge had MilkBites and the cupboards still have another.  The inability for me to keep the MilkBites stocked is proof enough for me which granola bar the kids preferred.

MilkBites come in five flavors: Chocolate, Strawberry, Peanut Butter, Oatmeal Raisin and Mixed Berry.  The two flavors my kids devoured were

Each box contains 5 servings and found in your grocery store’s dairy aisle.

Suggested retail price is $3.49.

Ocean Spray Snack Giveaway (4 Winners)

Seems like no matter where we are the kiddos need a snack.  Wish I had the Ocean Spray® Fruit Flavored Snacks over Christmas vacation.  Six kiddos were home ready to eat us out of house and home we could have used a quick snack.  These fruit flavored snacks are soft, fruity, and taste pretty good; Momma grabbed a couple for herself.   Kids love them in fact they kind of nagged me for them.  I felt pretty good about giving them these snacks because a serving size is:

80 calories, gluten free and contain 100% of the Daily Value of Vitamin C.

Another neat thing my daughter pointed out is each box has Double Box Tops.

So when we take our trips to the store, around town or to some other family fun here, I can whip these handly little packets out of my purse.

Try them out, here is a printable coupon for $1.10 off of the purchase of (2) Ocean Spray® Fruit Flavored.

These yummy fruit shaped and fruit flavored snacks are made with apple, pear, and cranberry juice concentrate and come in two varieties:  Assorted Fruit and Berries & Cherries.  We like both!

Whole Grain Einkorn Pasta Review

I love the idea of incorporating more whole grains into my diet, but it does take some getting use to.  Often whole grain pastas are gritty and very noticeable, it is a huge contrast to what I am use to.  That was until Jovial sent me some Einkorn whole grain pasta to try.

I received a box of penne and spaghetti to try.

The first thing I noticed was it doesn’t have a grainy or gritty texture.  Those expert pasta artisans in Italy sure know what they are doing…

There are several products to choose from:

Here is one of many delicious recipes available on Jovial.  There are two versions; with or without meat.

Fusilli with Green Beans, Arugula, Scallions & Chicken
Ingredients

½ pound green beans

2-3 scallions

1 cup of fresh arugula

3 tbsp. lemon juice

3 tbsp. + 1 tsp. extra virgin olive oil

1 clove chopped garlic

1 tbsp. dry white wine

5 fresh sage leaves

6 oz. of diced chicken, we prefer boneless thighs

For meatless- omit last four ingredients and substitute with ½ cup olives and 6-8 rinsed salted capers

12 oz. of Jovial einkorn or brown rice fusilli

Instructions

For meat eaters-

  1. Place diced chicken, chopped garlic, white wine, sage and 1 tsp. of olive oil in a bowl to marinate.
  2. In the pot where you will cook the pasta, bring enough water to boil to cover the green beans. When the water comes to a boil, add a pinch of salt and the whole green beans to blanch for 5-10 minutes, depending on how you like them.
  3. While the beans are cooking, chop arugula and scallions and whisk in your serving bowl with remaining olive oil and lemon juice.
  4. Heat a small stainless steel skillet and when it is hot, add the chicken and marinade with salt to taste. Cover and cook on medium-high heat for 3 minutes and then turn down to simmer and cook uncovered until the pasta is ready.
  5. Drain green beans and chop to bite size pieces, add to the serving bowl, mix well with herbs and lemon and add salt to taste.
  6. Bring 3 quarts of water to a rolling boil and cook pasta according to cooking instructions on the box. If needed, add pasta cooking water to keep chicken from drying.
  7. Before the pasta is ready to be drained, stir the chicken with its juices in the serving bowl and mix well.
  8. Drain pasta and add to other ingredients, stirring well with large serving spoon. You can enjoy hot or let cool and then refrigerate for later.

For meatless eaters-

  1. In the pot where you will cook the pasta, bring enough water to boil to cover the green beans. When the water comes to a boil, add a pinch of salt and the whole green beans to blanch for 5-10 minutes, depending on how you like them.
  2. While the beans are cooking, chop arugula, scallions, capers and olives and whisk in your serving bowl with remaining olive oil and lemon juice.
  3. Drain green beans and chop to bite size pieces, add to the serving bowl, mix well with herbs and lemon and add salt to taste.
  4. Bring 3 quarts of water to a rolling boil and cook pasta according to cooking instructions on the box.
  5. Drain pasta and add to other ingredients, stirring well with large serving spoon. You can enjoy hot or let cool and then refrigerate for later.

With Eco-Foil Pans I can Rinse Repeat Recycle

I won a set of pans from Mamavation Monday giveaway not to long ago.  My first observation was they are much more sturdy than I remember aluminum pans being and they come with lids.  Here are some facts my GREEN side was very pleased with:

  • Pans and trays are made from 100% recycled aluminum
  • Lids are made from 100% recycled plastic
  • Still 100% American made
  • Still 100% recyclable after use
  • 100% trusted quality and strength

I bet your wondering what you’d use them for now that the Holidays are over…  I’m finding uses for them on a daily basis and since they are sturdy I haven’t felt the need to put them in the recycle bins yet.

  • I used the smaller ones last night to bread my chicken.
  • We used them on my son’s birthday to hold the burgers and buns.

  • What about that work potluck?
  • Cakes and all kinds of goodies come to mind.
  • Keep food warm

EcoFoil is having a picture contest on their facebook page and I see some great ideas like lasagna, cakes etc…

Remember, Aluminum can be recycled over and over again, without ever losing its quality.  So don’t throw those cans away, recycle them!

I received a set of eco foil pans in a giveaway and thought I would review them for you.  The opinions are my own.

Not your Mom’s Ivory, Modern Moms use a different “Soap Dish”

There is nothing I like more than the smell of someone fresh out of the shower.  Scratch that, there is nothing I like more than me smelling and feeling fresh just after a shower.  Yes I am big on crisp clean smells.

Oh you know that smell where walk by someone and your senses are happy.  When your taking a shower and the happy clean smells makes you forget the aliens that replaced your children.  Makes you forget about the very long list of “to-dos”…  Yes now you know what I am talking about.

Ivory sent me some bar soap and shower soap to try out and I’m in LOVE.  Yes pleasant smelling soaps will take me that way.

I made the mistake of leaving the Lavender scented on the side of the tub.  My little girls kept trying to use it as hand soap they like it so much.  Yes it would make a nice handsoap but I was being selfish and wanted to save it for my showers.  I’m a mom with six kids, it takes an act of congress to get in the shower or at least wait till Papa Bear gets home.  So when I do get there I savor it.

It doesn’t take six kids to appreciate that right?  See I knew I wasn’t alone.  Other Moms like you and I answered a survey commissioned by Ivory and found 1000′s of Moms feel the same way.  They were inspired and created The Soap Dish.  Ivory’s new online community features Emmy award winner and funny mom, Melissa McCarthy, is a light hearted community that offers women like us an outlet.  So if you feel like sharing stories about your aliens, I mean children, this would be a great place to do it.  Visit www.facebook.com/ivory to get some humor we all can appreciate it.

Ivory’s not your Mom’s soap anymore.  It is time for us modern day moms. Laugh, Live and Share…
