The Daylight Savings change this Saturday has come and gone, I don’t know about the rest of you, but we are all feeling the affects of this one. Each year as this time approaches I just cringe. All six of my babies have the hardest time and to be honest I feel a bit off too. What I try to do is stay on their bedtime schedule: dinner, play, bath time, brush teeth, night-nights, read a book and off to bed.
Even with my regular preparation for this time change, they are still exhausted even earlier then normal and we all know tired baby makes for off behavior; MOODY PANTS!
Here is my youngest “Princess Buttercup” ready for bed and boy is she tired…
I know using a quality diaper like Pampers Baby Dry will offer up to 12 hours of overnight protection. Their new “Ultra Absorbant” core offers three layers of protection. What else can we do? Because according to according to a survey, over half of moms (52%) feel that their baby’s sleep patterns are thrown off when the clocks ‘fall back’ and Daylight Savings Time ends. I think we could all use some sleep tips.
The Sleep Lady, Kim West has a lot of great tips for us parents. Here are three of Kim West’s tips that are helpful for me:
1. Make a point to slowly adjust your child’s bedtime and nap-times an hour earlier, just 15-30 minutes a day for a few days before daylight savings ends.
2. For children under 4 years old, its essential that we make naps a priority this time change. Quality nighttime sleep is dependent upon good daytime sleep. Make sure that your children are well-napped during the day so that when the time change takes effect having a later-feeling bedtime isn’t as much of an issue.
3. While preparing for the time change (and after), use dramatic wake up to help your children adjust to the change. This may sound silly, but I have 2 little girls that get up very early in the morning and don’t seem to understand the rest of the world is sleeping. So they actually sleep till 6 or 630, I will start making a big deal out of wake up time.
